SCC offers daily intake counselling appointments to students at the Fort Garry campus. Students who are distressed and in need of immediate support can access in-person emergency triage services at 474 UMSU University Centre.

- Learning to Cope. This workshop is designed for students who would like to learn strategies to cope successfully with difficulties that are common among university students such as negative thinking, stress, procrastination and perfectionism.
- Mid-Day Mindfulness.This service is for students who want to explore mindfulness meditation, a tool that has been proven to help people cope with many different challenges including stress, anxiety and depression.
- Managing Stress that comes with Cultural Adjustment. This workshop is for International Students who would like to learn about relaxation, time management and resource building.

Spiritual Care provides support by helping students make sense of the values and beliefs that are important to them, enabling them to live meaningful live.
Spiritual Care:
- Assess how a student’s spirituality influences their health and wellbeing.
- Invest time in specialized and reflective listening, getting to know students beyond their health challenges or problems.
- Provide a supportive presence to students who are searching for meaning, identity, and purpose in the face of suffering, loss, or illness.
- Arrange for ceremonies and practices suited to students’ traditions by implementing forms of intervention that foster transformation and healing.

UNIVERSITY HEALTH SERVICE (UHS)

UHS provides comprehensive health care for both physical and mental health issues. You can book an appointment over the phone or in-person. A limited number of same-day appointments are available by making an appointment in person or over the phone when the clinic opens at 8:30 a.m. These appointments are offered on a ‘first-come, first-serve’ basis. If you are a student from the Bannatyne campus, please inform us of this when you are making your appointment as we have set aside specific appointment times at the beginning and end of each day for Bannatyne students.

A professional health educator/registered nurse is available to students for individual information on health and personal well-being. The health educator can help answer questions or find appropriate resources to get you closer to answers. All services are entirely confidential. Health and Wellness also offers Healthy U peer health educator programming by request on such things as stress and coping and maintaining physical health.

Recreation Services is open as usual providing active living opportunities for all U of M students at both campus locations. Our efforts are focused on providing facilities and programs that create positive social interaction and healthy lifestyles for students.
Each week we offer over 800 hours open gym, pool, ice, circuit studio and court time for informal recreation in addition to providing over 40 group fitness classes. Students also have access to our state-of-the-art fitness centers and running and walking tracks. Additional programming is also available including instructional and specialty fitness classes, Intramural sports, REC Clubs and personal training and assessment services.
